New Students.

Dear New Student,

I just wanted to take a moment to say welcome to the studio! By joining you have expressed not only the interest, but the commitment to being the best singer and musician you can be. Studying music is a discipline that not only takes grit, hard work, and determination; but also requires: patience, diligence, and self motivation. Wherever you are on your journey in music, I am beyond excited to get the opportunity to walk with you and help guide you through your learning experience!

Upon our first lesson, here are a few things that are mandatory for participation in the virtual lesson program:

1. A computer or laptop with a camera and microphone. (The built in ones will suffice, more detail below if you want to upgrade in the future)

2. A place to take notes (can be a notebook, cellphone, laptop, etc.)

3. Access to a stable internet connection

4. A bottle of water (hydration is imperative for healthy singing and thought)

Here’s a list of things that are optional for your study, but should be considered if you want the best experience possible:

1. An external microphone (I have a list of budget friendly options that I’d recommend).

2. An ethernet chord to ensure maximum bandwidth for lessons.

As we embark on this next part of your music journey, it is important to remember, we will be together for only 30-60 minutes each week. The biggest improvements as a musician happen in the practice room. You should be practicing each day no less than 20 minutes (unless you are sick or have an extenuating circumstance), and I recommend that you keep a practice journal/ log where you can write out and reflect on what you practiced that day. Mindful practice= bigger results, mindless practice= minimal or luck based results. The techniques we will be diving into together have existed for centuries and have been adapted over time to support singing in a variety of styles. As someone who has professionally sung in opera (internationally), musical theater (nationally and locally), as a featured soloist (Vero Beach, Daytona Choral Society), and contemporary worship leader- I can confidently tell you that what you will learn in our time together is a technique that will not only ground you as a singer, but will be adjustable depending on what your particular goals are.

For our first lesson, please bring the following:

1. A song that you think you sing really well.

2. An open mind.

3. Willingness to have fun and work hard.

4. A good attitude
